Another Amazing EID Year! The 2015 Elves In Disguise Photo Gallery Is Now Live!

This year marked another wonderful year for our Elves in Disguise Program! At the request of many Elves, who are all quite busy in December, the 2015 makeover was moved up two months. In collaboration with the Dallas Bar Association’s Community Involvement Committee, Elves in Disguise 2015 was held Saturday, October 24, 2015. Each year, volunteers at New Hope Foundation join together to bring joy and hope to one or more families with our Elves in Disguise “home makeover.” Elves in Disguise provides basic items many people may take for granted, such as a clean mattress with sheets and a bed frame or a dining room table or desk where the kids can do homework. Relieved of the burden of providing the basics, families are able to focus on achieving important milestones that can help them break the constraints of poverty. Elves In Disguise 2013: The Big Day & The Big Reveal!

People sometimes ask us if we really get the entire Elves in Disguise home makeover done in one day. Our photo gallery from two days ago showed that we actually put in many hours of work before Elves Day. There was still a long way to go when the Elves arrived yesterday morning, but by 4:00 p.m., this year’s makeover was complete. See our “Elves In Disguise 2013 Gallery” for a few photos that our volunteer Elves have shared with us from yesterday.  All these photos were taken yesterday at Elves In Disguise, December 19, 2013. Elves in Disguise 2013 Home Makeover set for Thursday, December 19, 2013!

Our next annual Elves In Disguise apartment makeover will be on Thursday, December 19, 2013. Our annual Elves In Disguise apartment makeover is our Main Event of charity projects every year. It involves a complete apartment makeover for a family currently living in subsidized housing in South Dallas.  This year’s applicants are all very deserving, and we are awarding a complete makeover and scholarship to one of these families on Thursday, December 19, 2013. Watch our web site for Elves Updates as Elves Day 2013 approaches and check out our Elves in Disguise page for more information and for links to videos and photos from previous Elves In Disguise makeovers. What is Elves In Disguise? Started in 1999 by a group of high school boys, the Elves in Disguise home makeover is in its 14th year. Since its early years, the Elves have completed roughly twenty makeovers, have provided about $50,000 in scholarships, and have helped transform too many lives to count. The makeover is not just a home makeover. It’s a lifestyle makeover – but it starts with the home. By providing a safe, clean, and respectable home, and by ensuring that the family has a Christmas they will never forget, the transformation begins. Recipients are encouraged to help themselves, to become independent, to set attainable goals and reach them, and to adopt a new, empowered mindset. Most of our families move out of Section 8 housing within a few years.  For many, they are the first in their families to do so. And we currently have three students in college who would never have had the opportunity if not for the growing scholarship pool established to help them. The makeover is the work of about 50 onsite volunteers and hundreds of others who help the Elves make their magic happen from the sidelines. Due to our donors and volunteers and our extensive network of resources, our teams complete a makeover valued at about $30,000 for a mere fraction of that. But the real prize is access to the New Hope Foundation Scholarship Fund. Each family member becomes eligible to apply for those funds to assist them in reaching their goals, whether it is to complete a GED program, attend college or trade school, or to clear obstacles that stand between them and a new and improved future. Dec. 2012: New Hope Foundation Gives Home Makeovers To Three Families In Need for the “Elves In Disguise” Program

NEW HOPE FOUNDATION GIVES HOME MAKEOVERS TO THREE FAMILIES IN NEED ON DEC. 20, 2012 THROUGH 7TH ANNUAL “ELVES IN DISGUISE” PROGRAM (DALLAS) – In the heart of south Dallas on Dec. 20, 2012, New Hope Foundation will put its 7th annual “Elves in Disguise” campaign into full swing to provide three impoverished families a home makeover, complete with Christmas gifts that will brighten their holidays and change their lives. This coming Thursday, 4:00 p.m. at 2200 S. Zang Blvd., more than 150 volunteers and several notable VIPs will gather to help the select families – each with a gripping story of hardship and resilience. “Our Empowerment Center is in the heart of the Wynnewood community, and for seven years, we have worked diligently to make it a better place for so many deserving families,” said Kip Petroff, founder of the New Hope Foundation. “This year will be the most rewarding year yet because of the families, their stories and how this makeover will change their lives in time for the holidays.” The Empowerment Center is an adult learning and community service center that is the home base of New Hope Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Led by longtime community activist and pastor of Wynnewood Fellowship Center, Rev. Johnny Flowers, the Empowerment Center is a completely renovated Exxon Lube Center that is now a place of hope for the many families living in Section 8 housing surrounding the center. “There are more than 480 units here in the Wynnewood community, so to find the right family for these makeovers requires getting to know everyone here,” said Flowers. “There is something here at the center to serve everyone, from GED classes to self-improvement classes. However, the ‘Elves in Disguise’ program is the single most awesome undertaking we do throughout the year.” Typically, the unveiling is a surprise to the winning families, as they are whisked away from their home for a couple of days and brought back to a crowd of elves, staff and VIPs in attendance applauding. This year, one family is actually moving into a home that has been renovated without their knowledge. In addition, the New Hope Foundation executives will provide other empowerment tools that will set the deserving families up for long-term success.
